Versailles Shopping
The best place in Versailles to buy some souvenirs and gifts is right in the palace. If you want to try out some French sweets you can go to Aux Colonnes. They have very good fine chocolates around six days a week. This shop is one of the locals’ favorite. But the biggest part of shopping can be done in Notre Dame neighborhood. It is an open-air plaza called Marche Notre Dame. The market is from the times of the Sun King. Before the castle was built, the market Notre Dame was the main point of attraction, a cultural hub and a commercial center.
This open-air market is opened on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays mornings. It sells fresh food for all the people in the town. In its perimeter there are dozens of antique shops, boutiques and other markets. From there you can buy China and other goods.
Paris is the fashion mecca, so it is normal that Versailles has the same style. It is a small imperial city. If you take a 10 minutes ride on the bus you will be able to go to a great shopping mall that has the same shops as the big city but with fewer tourists.
